PRESS: Russian firms eager to extend licenses for Western software

MOSCOW, Apr 5 (PRIME) -- Russia’s large companies and regional authorities continue to look for ways to extend licenses for products by U.S. software company Adobe, which left the country more than a year ago, and similar software, business daily Kommersant reported on Wednesday.

The daily studied data of electronic trading floors for purchases of licenses for foreign services used to prepare visual materials, in particular, Creative Cloud by Adobe. A number of large companies, such as retailer Magnit or financial company BCS, have been seeking means to extend their subscriptions since the beginning of 2023.

Like many other software developers, Adobe suspended sales in the country and discontinued the subscription of state media after the start of Russia’s operation in Ukraine. The move affected newspaper publishers because Adobe InDesign is a standard layout program.

Certain Russian software suppliers still sell licenses to prolong corporate subscriptions of Adobe. IT solutions supplier Softline said it happens upon an agreement with the vendor. There is no import replacement for such products, because the government focused on the needs of the industry first.
